How do people manage the different layers of a food forest in a temperate climate? It seems that traditional stacking of layers does not work as well. I have found that keep fruit bearing trees smaller and spaced out by about 10-15 feet works well. Layers such a roots, under-story and vines are spaced according and fill in empty spaces where there is open sunlight and soil.
